Kilgore & Avoca Roads, Southeast Corner?
Kenokee, Michigan

"Memory Trail - An Early History of Kenokee" by Coleeta Vespar, published in 1976, makes mention of a Jeep dealership in the Post-WW2 era.  More information can be found on the page labeled "Avoca Feed Barn", with pertinent details as follows:

"On the southeast corner of Kilgore and Avoca Roads sat Bob Tyler's Standard Gas Station. Mr. Tyler was a superintendent for the Whitely Construction Company that cemented Kilgore Road in 1927. Shortly afterward, he purchased that whole corner piece of land. At that time, it was so swampy that the original building sat on four cedar blocks until the land could be filled in. In the station, Mr. Tyler had a counter where he sold soft drinks and ice cream. Behind the station, to the south, he built a red garage where he parked the Model T truck he used to deliver kerosene and gasoline to the people of the area.

When Tyler sold the property to the Cosgrove Oil Company, the building was remodeled, an apartment was added upstairs and rooms were built at the back. Bill Long, John Card and Glenn Armstrong all rented the station from Mr. Cosgrove. In 1936, Mr. William Strenk took over operation of the business. In addition to the gas pumps and service room, Mr. Strenk sold groceries and Firestone products and accessories of all kind. For a time, after World War II, he sold Jeeps. The station burned in 1946 and the present building was built in 1947. Mr. Strenk continued to run the station until 1972. The present owner, Roger Pilon, opened for business on April 1, 1975."
